Amongst the most formidable, stoic, lasting performance DJs to emerge from the Northeast US, the prolific PKat prowls and pounces to rhythms of unparalleled energy. Once the Philippine-born displaced New Yorker perched a set of cat ears upon his head, it set off an unprecedented chain of events, yet Seannglenn Kearney has always gravitated toward adventure.
Disconcerted by a volatile start-up dot-com, he found sanctuary through New England's underground scene at The Asylum, Springfield MA; and various Columns of Knowledge events throughout CT. It was refreshingly reminiscent of his time relishing NYC's Tunnel, Limelight, Twilo, and Sound Factory where PKat first donned his distinctive cat ears on October 31, 2000. Then shortly after, PKat roved to CT, closer among brethren. When asked what the P stands for he playfully replied, "It can stand for many things. It might be 'Percussive, Pistachio, Perforated, Piano' ... Kat" lightly sidestepping the origin of appellation being partially attributed to his username on Bluelight.nu, a web forum promoting harm reduction and underground electronic music culture.
May of 2002, at an undisclosed location along the Farmington River, PKat executed his first semi public session. He soon after performed regularly at the Municipal Cafe in Hartford, CT. His energy and penchant for bringing crowds to frenzy gained the attention of arts and entertainment journalist Dan Barry, who wrote a piece featuring PKat in the Hartford Advocate, April 2005. From 2007 to 2011 PKat earned several main stage spotlights at Candyball, New York City's hardcore party by RaversOnly. He continued throughout the Northeast US as denizen contributor to Mutiny Events, Strictly Underground, Tight Crew, and numerous production groups dedicated to the underground.
The US alone wasn't enough to contain PKat's effect. In summer 2010, along with select artists under the umbrella of Project USA, PKat was invited to perform multiple stages at HTID in the Sun, a week long getaway at Lloret de Mar, ES. A season later he traversed the pond again to headline the Boot Camp stage at Ravers Are: Twisted at Lakota Bristol, UK. Only a matter of time would see PKat's quirky sense of humor broadcast worldwide with over 170 live streamed episodes of 'PKat vs Demonfish' on KraftyRadio.com, and features on happyhardcore.com that spanned from summertime 2009 to 2013.
By nature, PKat is very agreeable and looks out for everyone's enjoyment. By contrast, his mixing style has been described as aggressive, relentless, akin to a locomotive steadily climbing to a brisk cruising speed while adventuring along the coastline. In two words "keep moving". This is a fitting mantra for the owner of PLURTRAIN, PKat's independent label since 2004. PKat has an affinity for exploring juxtaposed elements as demonstrated in his remix of NakedFace Records' release 'Sugar Glass'. Other originals have encompassed a broad range from the bouncy bass of 'Bubblegum' to severely dark and tantalizing tones of 'In the Flesh'. A natural born tester of boundaries, PKat's artistic journey is interminable.
Presently, PKat has been capturing and mastering live sets for us to relive, strategically covert releasing exclusive mixes, and maintaining the delicate balance all while priming PLURTRAIN for further expansion as digital label. Keep your ears perked for his forthcoming releases and unreleased abstractions at festivals, exclusive parties, clubs, and underground events.
